Should we expect better?

Posted by Tim Ackert on October 12, 2010 at 8:01 AM

Connecticut residents pay the highest taxes in the United States for state and local government. In most towns and cities the largest portion of their taxes goes to fund the education budget, yet the states portion of funding for K-12 ranks it 45th in the nation. With this lack of funding there is no surprise Connecticut has the largest education achievement gap in the nation. Lack of funding from the state means more emphasis on property taxes to pay for education.

This year the Democrat controlled legislature passed a budget that reduced the funding for K-12 education. They also reduced funding for the University of Connecticut, the Connecticut University System and the Connecticut Community College System.

Since we are the highest taxpayers where is the money going? I have my thoughts but I am interested in yours.

It is said that you get the government that you deserve, but I no longer believe it. The people of Connecticut never wanted this band of tax and spend people who treat us like a conquered population rather than people that they are elected to represent. We have a real problem. It is very simple. There is no way that we can pay the fianacial obligations that have been laid at the door of the taxpayers of Connecticut.

This will not end well. No amount of budget cutting, no amount of taxation will be sufficient. Those who expect to receive money from the government of Connecticut have real problems in their future. When pensions can't be paid, and programs can't be funded the true cost of this level of irresponsibility will be laid bare for all to see.

A great deal of our money is being used to provide favors for the groups that support the democratic party. The democrat legislature has made promises and commitments to the public unions and special interest groups that are going to bankrupt Connecticut if something isn't done soon. Democrats are addicted to spending and believe that for every problem there is an even more expensive solution and in almost every case, they believe that more government and control is the answer. This has been pervasive in our schools systems where we see numerous unfunded mandates and state controls over the system that waste taxpayers dollars and cause the system to fail.

It is time to reduce the size of government. Get rid of their anti-education,anti-business and anti-taxpayer laws, mandates, bureaucracy, and taxes and fees.
