Connecticut residents pay the highest taxes in the United States for state and local government. In most towns and cities the largest portion of their taxes goes to fund the education budget, yet the states portion of funding for K-12 ranks it 45th in the nation. With this lack of funding there is no surprise Connecticut has the largest education achievement gap in the nation. Lack of funding from the state means more emphasis on property taxes to pay for education.
This year the Democrat controlled legislature passed a budget that reduced the funding for K-12 education. They also reduced funding for the University of Connecticut, the Connecticut University System and the Connecticut Community College System.
Since we are the highest taxpayers where is the money going? I have my thoughts but I am interested in yours.
